Warren Haynes' New Album Man In Motion Now Available!
"Musically speaking, soul music was my first love," says Warren Haynes in an interview for an upcoming story in the June Issue of Hittin' the Note magazine. "In my really early, formative years, that's what I listened to. I'd sit in my room and try to sing like my heroes."

On Man In Motion, Warren's first proper solo album since 1993's Tales of Ordinary Madness, Haynes shows why he himself is a musical hero to many. This is as good as Warren has ever been as a singer, songwriter and guitarist, and with the help of an all-star band, he has created one of his best albums ever.

Warren's passionate vocals are front and center here, and his perceptive songwriting cuts to the core on songs like "River's Gonna Rise" and "Sick of My Shadow." He is helped out by a dream team of great musicians, including a trio of New Orleans finest in bassist George Porter Jr., drummer Raymond Weber and keyboardist Ivan Neville. This amazing rhythm section creates a groove-filled pocket that is irresistible! Former Faces keyboardist Ian McLagan, sax master supreme Ron Holloway and soulful vocalist Ruthie Foster also contribute to the great ensemble sound of Man In Motion.

There is one cover here, a passionate reading of "Everyday Will Be Like a Holiday" by soul legend William Bell, but the rest is pure Warren Haynes, singing from the depths of his soul and playing like a man possessed. This record may not rock as hard as Gov't Mule, but it packs the same powerful punch, and any Warren Haynes fan will love it.

HTN At Mountain Jam!
Speaking of Warren Haynes, it's almost time for Mountain Jam! Among other reasons to go, this year Mountain Jam is the site of the only Gov't Mule gig planned for 2011. You know that show will be a doozy! Mountain Jam will also feature the Warren Haynes Band, playing songs from Man In Motion, and let's not even get into the many different bands Warren will sit in with. One thing is always true about Mountain Jam: It's the best place on Earth to get your Warren fix!

Even apart from Mr. Haynes, this year's festival is packed to the gills with some of the best musicians working today. From Sunday night headliner My Morning Jacket to lesser-known acts like Leroy Justice and Toubab Krewe, there isn't a dud to be found. This year they have even extended the festival to start on Thursday, giving you four full days of live music.

And of course, Hittin' the Note will be there for the fourth year in a row! Look for our booth near the Lodge in the vendor area. We have come to look at Mountain Jam as a kind of "Wanee North," a family gathering for the HTN tribe. Click here for the full schedule and ticket info, and we can't wait to see you on the mountain!

Butch Trucks To Play Two Shows With Great Caesar's Ghost!

The Allman Brothers Band may not be touring this summer, but that doesn't mean you can't see ABB drummer Butch Trucks lay down the thunder. Butch will be playing a special pair of shows with HTN favorites Great Caesar's Ghost on August 1st and 2nd at the Guild Hall in East Hampton, NY. GCG plays the Allmans' music better than anybody short of the real thing, and have earned a solid following in the Northeast with their fiery playing. Add the thunderous power of the "Freight Train" behind the kit and the results are sure to be spectacular!

If you haven't checked out Great Caesar's Ghost before, you really should. We carry several of their CDs at HTN, and our own Rob Johnson wrote the liner notes to their Allman Brothers tribute CD, First There Is a Mountain. Here is a sample:

"At Hittin' the Note magazine, every now and then a new band comes across our radar that has that rare ability to ‘hit the note.' It is even more rare for us to come across a band that can play the Allman Brothers' music so well that it gets our attention. Great Caesar's Ghost is such a band."

Doesn't that sound like a group you need to know? Click here for tickets to the shows at the Guild Hall, or call (866) 811-4111 for tickets by phone, and click here to check out First There Is A Mountain .

Pre-Order Tedeschi Trucks Band's Revelator

June 7th is right around the corner, and we can't wait for everybody to experience Revelator, the great new album by Tedeschi Trucks Band. HTN have been supporters of both Derek and Susan for years, and this joint project really allows both of them to shine. This band is a force to be reckoned with!

With the help of everyone from bandmates like Mike Mattison to outside songwriters like Eric Krasno of Soulive and Gary Louris of the Jayhawks, Derek and Susan have created some timeless songs on this album. Mattison's "Midnight In Harlem" and "Learn How To Love," co-written by Krasno, are just two examples.

Of course, it helps to have an all-star, 11-piece big band putting some muscle behind the tunes. From the twin drumming of Tyler Greenwell and JJ Johnson, to the musical telepathy and world-class chops of Oteil and Kofi Burbridge, to the fat horn section of Kebbi Williams, Maurice Brown and Saunders Sermons, everyone contributes to the lush, full sound of Revelator.

Even if the album is a communal achievement born from ego-free teamwork, it's still hard not to focus on Derek and Susan. Derek's wailing solo on "Midnight In Harlem" is an instant classic, and Susan knocks it out of the park on song after song, with her sassy take on "Love Has Something Else To Say" being one standout. The most talented couple in the music business has reached a new level with this outstanding record.

Click here to pre-order Revelator, and we'll send you 3 advance downloads next week to hold you over until the full album shows up in your mailbox. Also, everyone who pre-orders through HTN gets a digital copy of the next issue of Hittin' the Note magazine, with a special feature on Tedeschi Trucks Band!

Thank you for your support of Hittin' the Note, and of all the wonderful artists whose music we cover. Please continue to support live music whenever you can!
