Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers

On a beautiful summer evening in Alpharetta, GA, classic rockers Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers took the stage at Verizon's Encore Park Amphitheatre. There was quite a crowd in attendance, especially on the lawn, and Petty was warmly greeted. Not that anyone expected otherwise, but Petty and the band would not disappoint as they played a powerful performance reminiscent of a much younger group of musicians.

To the delight of some dedicated fans, the show was not just a performance of greatest hits but featured many of what Petty calls “Deep Tracks.” Of which, the Traveling Wilburys’ “Handle with Care” was particular treat. A few cover songs like Bo Dudley’s “I’m a Man” and JJ Cale’s “Travelin’ Light” were also cleverly mixed into the set list, delighting the cross-generational crowd. “Mary Jane's Last Dance” and “American Girl” completed the outing as fans sang along with two of the group's most popular songs. It was certainly a great way to get the summer kicked off in the South.
